In the Bachelor's programme in Artificial Intelligence at Radboud University, you'll study three themes: what happens in the human brain when people use computers, how does human intelligence work, and how can we make computers work smarter? You will learn how to create intelligent computer programmes that copy human cognitive functioning. In order to do so, at Radboud University we combine the fields of information technology, mathematics, cognition, computing sciences, and neurosciences. Artificial Intelligence is a young, dynamic field in which there is much to discover!

- We have a close collaboration with several world-renowned research institutes, which are located on our campus, e.g. the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition & Behaviour, and the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics.
- You can complete part of your programme studying abroad, e.g. in Australia, Canada, China, Japan, the U.S. or all across Europe.
At Artificial Intelligence in Nijmegen, we believe it is important that our education has a connection with the work field. That is why we have a Work Field Committee that helps improve this connection. The members of the committee are people who work at companies such as TNO, ASML, CBS, or smaller companies. The Work Field Committee monitors and identifies the knowledge and skills that are beneficial for our students in order to be successful in the work field. Furthermore, they advice on how students within our study programme can be prepared for a related job after graduation.
Studieprogramma

In the first year of the programme you will develop your basic AI skills. You will study computing science, mathematics, robotics, psychology, and logic. You will also learn skills and techniques to conduct research, including statistics and how to design an experiment. Furthermore, you will be heavily involved in modelling human thought processes in the computer. Making computer programs smarter, and thus user-friendly, is an important topic as well.
In the second and third years, you will explore both the brain and the computer in greater depth. You will deepen your knowledge of programming, mathematics, statistics, and modelling skills. For example, you will be introduced to neural networks: models of cognitive functions such as memory, observation, learning, and language. This exploration of the brain and technology will raise many questions on ethics and views of humanity. In the third year, you can personalise your programme by selecting elective courses (24 EC). Finally, your Bachelor’s thesis will involve developing and conducting your own research project.

- minimaal 42 EC in de eerste 12 maanden
At the end of the year you will receive a Binding Study Advice (BSA). This advice indicates whether you are allowed to continue your studies in the second year. You will only receive a positive BSA if you have earned a minimum of 42 EC (course credits) out of a possible 60 EC. Failing to meet this requirement means receiving a negative BSA, which results in you having to discontinue your studies and not being allowed to enrol in the study programme for the next three years.

Groundbreaking insights are often found at the crossroads of disciplines. The vibrant and interdisciplinary field of Artificial Intelligence is a good example of this. We study human cognition in order to be able to understand and model artificial intelligence, with the aim of creating smarter computers and robots. In addition to mathematics, computing science and other exact sciences, you will be studying psychology, neuroscience, logic and linguistics. After all, you will first need to know how the human brain works before you can start creating smart computers and robots. Conversely, computer models that mimic these brain processes can be quite useful in understanding the human brain. Artificial is a young dynamic field in which there is much to discover!
honours-/excellence program Honours Programme Social Sciences
In the Honours Programme Social Sciences the emphasis is on the student's future role as a social scientist in our contemporary knowledge society.
Students from the three schools existing within the Faculty will collaborate in this programme and will become familiar with four different perspectives: an individual, group, societal and normative perspective. These perspectives represent crucial aspects of the various approaches characteristic of social science.
